The laugh of fair Branwen,
Makes all the Welsh boys swoon.
The smile of fair Branwen
Is bright as the sun at half past one
When fair Branwen speaks,
Her words are wise and learnéd,
And when she walks she flies,
With an ethereal grace and poise.
She has a voice, ‘tis rich as wine,
And ‘round her the world revolves.
Her eyes outshine the moon at night,
And whate’er she wants, it sure is done.
Fair Branwen is of noble blood,
‘Tis sure and must be so.
For no commoner could e’er command
The grass to grow and the leaves to fall.
The tide ebbs and flows at high tide and low
At a wave of her pale and slender hand,
And ne’er does her smile hold any real warmth,
And like the Piper she lures them all in,
Leaving them to wonder
What her pretty words mean.
And so fair Branwen of Wales
Dances with the devil,
And nobody knows but her.

Yet another portfolio entry. This time, we were to characterize a person by "showing" instead of "telling." Yay.

It was originally inspired by Welsh mythology (there are two different mythological figures by the name of Branwen) but I deviated from that, instead taking the meaning of the name Branwen (white raven) and turning it into sort of a double entente that was reflected in Branwen's character. White traditionally symbolizes purity, innocence, and beauty (in many Western cultures), whereas the raven is a bit more difficult----in Tolkien's works, for instance, the raven is a harbinger of good news, however, more commonly it as seen as a bird of evil much like its cousin the crow---take Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven", for instance. Therefore, the white raven becomes a being that is superficially pure and beautiful, but the innocence hides a facade of malice and cruelty.

I had fun with this one :) But I'm sure I can improve it...help, anyone?
